P&O Maritimes new Interceptor 48 pilot vessel ‘P&0 Cypria for the Port of Limassol, Cyprus f
Safehaven Marine have launched a third new pilot vessel for the P&O Maritime, one of the longest established maritime companies in the world, for operations at the Port of Limassol in Cyprus, the vessel is an Interceptor 48 pilot 'P&O Cypria' The vessel was ordered in February 2016 and delivered on schedule. Any client ordering a 3rd vessel from a boat builder is a fine testimony to the quality of the company’s vessels as well as confidence in the company itself.
The Limassol pilot is the 32nd pilot vessel and the 10th of their Interceptor 48 pilot vessels to enter service in Ports worldwide, a fine testimony to the reputation Safehaven have established for themselves in this specialised market.
'P&O Cypria' is powered by a pair of Volvo's D13 550hp engines and ZF gearboxes providing the vessel with an operational speed of 26kts. The vessel is 15m LOA, with a 4.3m beam and 17,500kg lightship Displacement. She has a seating capacity for 7 pilots and two crew, CAB 500series suspension seats are fitted in the main cabin, with further seating for up to 8 passengers in the forward cabin, which is very comfortably fitted out with a galley, a separate heads compartment and plenty of storage space. The pilots are well catered for with the vessel featuring twin 16,000btu Dometic high capacity air conditioning units allowing for redundancy should one unit fail (necessary for the very hot climate the vessel will operate in). These are fitted in the main cabin providing a comfortable environment, where pilots enjoy very low noise levels of just 73db. The pilot vessel is very heavily fendered with 150x150mm D section rubber main gunwale fendering augmented with Safehaven's unique sacrificial shoulder fender system, ensuring pilot boarding's in rough conditions are soft, with impacts well cushioned and the main fender and hull structure fully protected. Multiple diagonals and a lower run further protect the vessel, Additionally fendering is fitted on her rounded bow allow the vessel to be used for occasional 'pushing' duties to assist pilots in small ship manoeuvres. A full electronic package supplied by Raymarine based around the C 120 series displays are positioned flush in a GRP 'wrap around' helm console giving the helmsman excellent command of the vessel, with all displays clearly visible, Furthermore she is fitted with a FLIR remotely operated thermal imaging camera offering controllable night vision 360 degrees around the vessel, a very important safety feature which in combination with Safehaven's tried and tested transom operated MOB recovery platform, allows an injured pilot to be quickly located, even at night and safely recovered from the sea unconscious. Safehaven have by now established a reputation for building pilot boats with exceptional seakeeping abilities an able to deal with the harshest sea conditions.
Safehaven are currently building an Interceptor 38 pilot vessel for the port of Algeciras and an Interceptor 42 pilot vessel for the Port of Gijon in Spain, and continue to prove themselves one of Europe's most successful boat builders.
